The United Nations University (UNU) is an internationalacademic organization which plays a unique role in world affairsand in promoting the United Nations' aims of peace and progress.It provides and manages a framework for bringing together theworld's leading scholars to tackle the pressing problems of today,and helps alleviate the isolation of researchers in developingcountries.

The work of the University is carried out through a network ofUNU's own research and training centres and programmes (RTC/Ps)located in different parts of the world. The University Headquarters,located in Tokyo, Japan, serves as the core of this network andcoordinates the academic and administrative work of the organization.Specific academic activities are conducted by networks of scholarsand institutions located in both developed and developing countries.
