  • The Zoological Museum is associated with the Lomonossov State University of Moscow Department of Zoology. The Museum provides support of zoological research within the department, throughout the state and region, and nationally and internationally by collecting, curating, and managing important zoological collections.
There are about 180.000 specimens of about probably 1200 species kept in this collection. They belong basically to Pelaearctic fauna. Such big size of collection is caused by exisitng of large local series of small mammals (shrews, voles) for studying within-species variation. Besides, there are some noteworthy samples of (though rather common) rodents and bats from Peru, Cuba, N Bolivia, Ethiopia, Vietnam. The electronic database is availbale for the type materials only (340 nominal taxa belonging to 180 species).
Its collection of marmots is the biggest in the World and consists of 2 930 specimens representing 9 identified species of Marmots of the World.

    Genus MARMOTA Blumenbach, 1779
