The samples of skins (each area was 0.25 sq.sm) from rump, back, withers and side were took from 5 females and 5 males (all marmot were about 2 years old) unsalt-dry skins by standart method (Kuznetsov and Tserevetinov, 1981). The results of investigations showed:
1. The second year marmot both males and females have the most length haires of all types on back and withers and the least - on the rump. The most guard haires width in pivot is on rump and side, and the most haires width in grana is on a back and withers.
2. The different correlation of the pigment tops and light-coloured parts in guard haires colour from different areas of the skins was registered. This cause a variability of haires covers colour. Both males and females have the most long pigment tops and the most narrow light-coloured part on withers. This difference in correlation of these zones make the impression of more dark colour of withers and back.
3. The second year marmots have a sexual dimorphism in haires length (ê>0.999). The sexual differences in haires density and thickness were not recorded.
4. The most haires density is on back and withers (both males and females), the least - on the rump. The individual variability in hair covers density in population of cages marmot allow to hope on the effective selection for the improvement of this practical indication.
