The State nature reserve "Prisursky", Cheboksary, Russia

While having an expedition for studying the river Vyla in May 1997 were discovered two marmot's colonies earlier unknown, which are the daughters' colonies, formed during the natural settling of the marmots in the ecological passages from the main base colonies, which were situated on the collective-farm's territory "Leninskaya Iskra" of the Jadrinsky district.

The colonies are situated one from another at the distance of 1.5 kilometres in the villagres' suburbs Nizhny Jaushy - Malye Jamashy of the Jadrinsky region in the valley of the river Vyla and occupy the right slope (the south exposition) with the waterless valley. The soil is sandy. Jn the flood-lands of the river there is a boggy meadow, where are two lapwings' colonies have the nests, live the sandpipers: herb-waters, guarantors, snipes and others near the water birds (ducks, flying geese).

In one colony, which is situated lower on the river Vyla corrent are fixed 59 holes, in another - 20. In the first colony visually at the same time were observed 14 marmots, among them there were 2 cubs. In the first colony the marmots allowed to approach till the 200 m distance, in the second - only till 100 m.

Approximately, in the first colony live about 6-7 families, in the second - 3-4 families.

During the attendance of the holes were gathered the beetles with the excrements of the external "lavatory", which are in the definition.

There is a field near the colony. On the slopes are pastured cows and sheep. In two holes are seen the attempts of the excavations and the ebb-tide of the marmots' by the water.
